A journey into the interiors of the Eastern and Western Capes.
Enjoy settings as varied as sitting beside the warm
Indian Ocean on spectacular beaches or observing animals in their
natural habitats. Travel through the historically fascinating 1820
Settler regions of South Africa. Experience the 'Big 5' in one of
the country's most exclusive game reserves. Visit Graaff Reinet
the 'Jewel of the Karoo', staying in the original Magistrates Court,
before driving into the Karoo National Park where you will encounter
a truly African feeling. Then to Cape Town before driving up the
West Coast to learn about the Bushman and to stay on a beautiful
wheat and sheep farm.
Day 1 Depart London on over night flight to
South Africa.
Day 2 Arriving at Johannesburg International
Airport you will be met by an African Splendours representative
who will take you through to the Domestic terminal for check-in
for Port ElizabethUpon arrival at Port Elizabeth you will be met
by your tour escort and taken to the Beach Hotel. Rest of the day
at leisure.

Day 3 After a leisurely breakfast you will
depart for an easy drive to Kenton-on-Sea on the 'Sunshine Coast'.
A beautiful region with unspoiled beaches, situated between two
rivers. In the afternoon, after a light lunch, you will be free
to rest or walk along the beach.
At 3:00pm you will be taken to the Bushman's River for a gentle
cruise accompanied by a local ranger/guide. This will include a
90-minute game drive in the Emlangeni Game Reserve. Light snacks
and drinks will be provided.
Dinner will be on the floating Sandbar Restaurant.

Day 4 08:30am depart for Woody Cape Nature
Reserve where you will be met at 09:30 by a local guide in 4x4 for
a magnificent beach drive. Brunch will be served on the beach.

5/6 Kwandwe, the 'Place of the Blue Crane' is a Private Game
Reserve belonging to the Conservation Corporation. Home of the 'Big
Five' including white and the very rare black Rhino.
Unforgettable game drives in open 4x4 vehicles are
accompanied by experienced and very knowledgeable rangers. Enjoy
sundowners in the bush and dinner on the banks of the Great Fish
River.

Day 7 Departing Kwandwe mid-morning to drive
to Cavers, a restored manor house situated in the beautiful Cowie
Valley.

Day 8 Spending the day in and around Cavers,
walking, fishing, and generally relaxing.

Day 9 Leaving Cavers the day will be spent
travelling along the very scenic route to Graaf-Reinet the 'Jewel
of the Karoo'. Possibly visiting the Mountain Zebra National Park
en-route. Staying over night in the historic Drostdy Hotel, one
time Magistrates Court.

Day 10 Day spent exploring the historic town
of Graaf-Reinet and a visit to the Valley of Desolation.

Day 11 After a leisurely breakfast make the
2-3 hour drive to Beaufort West, home town of Dr Christian Barnard,
possibly visiting Museum before driving into the spectacular Karoo
National Park.

Day 12 Spend morning exploring Park.
Afternoon driving to Matjiesfontein Village a fashionable
Victorian watering place and unique stop-over between Cape Town
and Johannesburg. In the 1890s an enterprising ex-railway official,
James Logan, created a spa and offered food and refreshment for
both passengers and locomotives.

Day 13 After an early start, you will be driven
across country via Montague into the beautiful wine producing region
of
Robertson. Calling in at Van Loveren, one of the few family run,
privately owned vineyards. Situated in a garden oasis on the edge
of the Karoo offering wine-tasting in the traditional manner. Then
onto another stunning estate, Bon Courage producers of fine 'Cap
Classique' award winning wines.
Lunch at Fraa Uitzicht, a gourmet restaurant nestling in the vines.
After lunch a short drive to the village of Mcgregor.

Day
14 Having enjoyed a relaxed breakfast you will leave your guide
and make the easy drive up to Cape Town.
4 Days at leisure to include half day Township tour and visit to
the Winelands.
Day 18 Leaving Cape Town and driving up the West Coast to
Langebaan; a charming seaside village in which to lunch. Afternoon
continuing up to Clanwilliam and on to Bushmans Kloof. An unique
wilderness reserve: luxury Relais Chateaux Lodges and Suites with
numerous Bushman rock-art sites to explore; enjoying sundowners
amidst game in the plains.

Day 19 Full day in Bushmans Kloof, starting
with an early morning walk to rock-art sites accompanied by an expert.
Scrumptious brunch followed by an afternoon at leisure. Tea followed
by a game drive and sundowners.

Day 20 Departing after brunch and driving to
Bartholomeus Klip, a working sheep and wheat farm, in time for afternoon
tea. Afterwards there is an informal game drive or you can enjoy
a walk around the lake.

Day 21 Full day in and around Bartholomeus
Klip relaxing. In the middle of the day taking a short trip into
the small historic town of Tulbagh; beautifully restored after an
earthquake in 1969 destroyed the fine Cape Dutch buildings.

Day 22 Returning to Cape Town.
Day 23 Day at leisure before being transferred out to Cape
Town International Airport.
This tour can be reduced to two weeks, finishing in
Cape Town. Kwandwe can also be substituted with the Kariega Game
Reserve which is equally delightful and less costly.
